Bricks had been made in the parish since at least 1662 and examples survive in buildings from the late 17th century. From 1859 until the end of the 19th century the brick works were owned by the Box family, who sold them to Holloway Brothers of Devizes in 1894. They founded the Market Lavington Brick and Tile Works, located on Broadway south of the railway bridge, which they ran until 1920. From 1920 to 1956 the works were owned by W.E. Chivers of Devizes but brickmaking ceased around the time of the Second World War. Photo (left) was taken in 1928, credit: Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre, Chippenham

The photograph (right) is of Lord Roberts a Fowler B5 road locomotive, which was delivered to Holloway Brothers on 31st December 1900 pictured during her visit to the village in July 2018.  Lord Roberts continues to be operational and we hope to see her in the village once more in July 2021.
